How Do I Make Money with a Content Website?

For a few years it seemed as though the web advertising market was slowly dying - but now, the market seems to be picking up momentum. If you have a website with 10,000 to several million page views a month, you should be able to make some money off of advertising!

Finding a good ad network takes work, but once you have one, they do a lot of the work for you. The best content sites are ones that focus on business or technology, entertainment sites are not drawing large advertisers.

1. Fastclick.com

Fastclick.com has several thousand websites in its ad network and does a great job of selling a good majority of its ads served. If it doesn't serve an ad up, you have the option of redirecting it to another ad provider or letting them serve a public service announcement. The Fastclick.com interface is very easy to read and quite usable. Fastclick is one of the best ad networks available. Highly recommended.

2. Tribalfusion.com

Tribalfusion.com has a smaller number of sites than the bigger ad networks - they are much more selective so they can sell a lot of their clients ad space. Since they are more selective, you have to be in an appealing category or have a significant number of page views. Tribalfusion works in a "ad marketplace" format where ad buyers can buy at different levels or categories and pay more for the more targetted ad buys. Highly recommended.

3. Burstmedia.com

Burstmedia accepts small publishers (as little as 5000 page views a month), though have fallen on harder times and is accepting much fewer publishers than before. Generally speaking, their ad revenues are smaller than the larger Ad networks, but they would be good for your defaults or to try to fill some of your remnant inventory with. Do not sign an exclusive agreement with them, you will regret it. Recommended for small sites or remnant inventory.

One of these three networks can serve the needs of most small to medium size websites.
