How to Clean Your Carpets

Here's how to remove common stains from your carpets:

- Red Wine: Neutralize with white wine or use salt to soak up the spill. Then, use club soda.

- Nail Polish: Blot up as much as possible. Test nail polish remover before using. If carpet does not bleach from remover, apply one drop at a time to nail polish stain and blot immediately. Follow with Spot Shot Carpet Stain remover.

- Mud: Cover with salt and baking soda. Let dry. Vacuum thoroughly. Follow with a carpet spotter.

- Coffee and Tea: Blot spill. Soak with cold water or club soda and blot until dry. Saturate with hydrogen peroxide for 10 minutes to lighten stain.

- Indentations: Remove furniture indents by wetting and fluffing with a fork.

- Wax: Put ice on wax. Chip frozen wax away. Next, cover with a paper bag and iron bag on low heat to absorb the wax without scorching the carpet.

- Gum: Follow directions for wax, above. Do not use iron. Instead, apply a very small amount of Vaseline and scrape off.

- Glue: Saturate with white vinegar. Use fork to work it up and out of the carpet fibers.

- Ink: Spray with hairspray and blot carefully.
