Types of Memory

Conventional - 1 kb - 640 kb - Used for DOS applications and TSRs.

Upper Memory - 640 kb - 1024 kb - Can be used to load DOS drivers to increase Conventional memory available for applications.

High Memory - 1024 kb - 1088 kb - Can be used by a single application or utility

Extended Memory - 1088 kb - End - Created to allow applications to use memory outside of the Conventional memory

Expanded Memory - Virtual Memory - uses bank switching to page data in and out

Virtual Memory - Windows Virtual Memory uses a file on the Hard Drive to switch data into and out of the computer's memory.
