Opening an Existing File

To open an existing Photoshop file or an image in another format:

  1. From the File menu, select Open.

The Open dialog opens.

  1. Navigate to the location of the file.
  2. Select the file. A thumbnail preview and the image’s file size appears at the bottom of the dialog.
  3. Click Open.

If you have trouble opening a file of a particular format, you can use the Open As dialog to specify the format:

  1. From the File menu, select Open As.

The Open As dialog opens.

  1. Navigate to the location of the file.
  2. From the Open As drop-down menu, select the format of the image you want to open.
  3. Select the image and click Open.
