How to Tie a Knot

by Learnthat.com Staff on Tuesday, November 23, 2004

This technique is called a Windsor double knot. It is a full knot and works well under a shirt with a spread collar.

1. Place the tie under your shirt collar and flat against your body.

2. Extend the wide end of the tie about 12 inches below the narrow end.

3. Bring the wide end up through the loop between the collar and tie and back down.

4. Pull the wide end under the narrow end and to the left. Loop it back through again.

5. Bring the wide end across the front from left to right.

6. Pull the wide end up through the loop again.

7. Bring the wide end down through the knot in front.

8. Tighten the knot with both hands.
