How do you go about saving that much money? A little at a time. Well, unless you have the type of job, such as a sales person, in which you get lump sums of money as a bonus or commission. If that is the case, take one or two of those bonus checks and pad the bank account. You won’t get to buy any “fun” stuff with that money, but you are sure buying yourself some security and peace of mind.
If you do not have such a job, then you have to work a little harder to save the money. If you normally go out to dinner twice per week, cut it down to once and put the extra $20-$50 in your savings account. Deposit the money right then, because if it stays in your wallet, it will likely get spent. If you normally go to Starbucks five times a week, try buying a pound there and making it at home; put the difference in your savings account.
If you get any refund checks, such as power or electric from a past residence or a return from a mail order item…do not cash it! Put it in your savings account. Little things like these will add up, and before you know it, you will have your security in place.
