There are a few simple things you can do to save money on your water and electric bills. The biggest has to do with your air conditioning. Do not turn it off completely when you are out during the day or for a weekend. Just turn it up to 80 or 85 degrees. That way, when you get home and lower the thermostat, the A/C does not have to work twice as hard to cool the whole house, it just have to bring it down a few degrees from where it is. Fans are cheaper to run than air conditioning. So you may want to put your air conditioning a few degrees warmer than you like it, then turn on a few fans. Another way to save on your electric bill is to turn off lights when you leave a room.
Here are a few ways to save on your water bill: • Run the dishwasher only when it is full • Turn the water off while you are brushing your teeth, do not leave it running! • Do not run the water the whole time you are hand washing dishes, just turn it on to rinse • Consolidate your laundry loads
You can also equip your house with energy conserving appliances. For example, a water-saving toilet or a energy-saving refrigerator.
If you do all or even a few of the things above, you will see savings on your water and electric bills.
