Play Guitar / Guitar Basics Tutorial - How to String a Guitar
String an Acoustic Guitar. First off, different guitars require different procedures. The first picture below and to your left is the rear view of a Stratocaster style guitar with the backplate removed. In this case, the strings would go through the hole (ball end last) to the front of the guitar. Install one string at the time. For example, run the 1st string through to the top, flip the guitar over, pull the string to the headstock, attach it to the tuner post, then wind it up a bit just to hold it in place. Repeat this process for the 2nd string, 3rd string, and so on. When all of the strings have been strung, you can tune. ![]() ![]()
