Moving the Pieces

White always moves first, and the players alternate turns. A player moves by transferring a piece or pawn to another square that is vacant or occupied by the opponent's piece or pawn. If the square is occupied (by an opponent's piece or pawn) the moving player removes, or captures, the opponent's man and replaces with the capturing man. The only exception is the king, which will be dealt with later.

You do not have to capture a piece if you can (as you must in Checkers, and other games). Only one piece is allowed to move per turn (there is one exception, which will be dealt with later). Each piece except the knight must move along straight, unobstructed paths. If there is another piece "in the way", no piece (except the knight) may "hop over" that piece to reach its intended destination.
