The Layers panel lets you manage the visibility of the layers on your page, making it possible to hide some layers while you work with others:
- In the Design panel group, click the Layers tab.

- The picture of the eye represents the layer's visibility. By default, this field is blank, and the layer is visible. To hide a layer, select it in the Layers panel and click the blank space in the Visibility column to the left of the layer.
A closed eye appears, indicating that the layer is now hidden.

- When a layer is hidden, it no longer appears in the document, nor does it appear to a user viewing the page in a browser.
Tip:
Advanced Dreamweaver users can take advantage of the visibility property to add behaviors that toggle layer visibility in response to an event on the page.
- To make the layer visible again, click the closed eye.
An open eye now appears, indicating that the layer is visible.

The stacking order of the layers refers to the order in which overlapping layers appear from bottom to top. The first layer listed in the Layers panel appears on top of any overlapping layers, while the contents of the layer listed last may be completely hidden by other layers, if they are positioned over it. For example, if you place an image in one layer, and then use another layer to place text over the image, the layer containing the text should appear above the image layer in the Layers panel.
To change the stacking order, simply drag and drop the layers into new positions in the Layers panel.
Tip:
You can select a layer that's hidden behind another layer by selecting it in the Layers panel.
